Build and scale mobile and web apps at Canva in Sydney, owning full stack development across React Native, Next.js, and AWS in a permanent engineering role.
We're looking for a seasoned Full Stack Engineer to join a growing engineering team in Sydney, building and scaling production-grade applications across both mobile and web platforms. You'll work across the full stack — from crafting performant React Native mobile experiences to architecting robust Next.js front-ends and cloud infrastructure on AWS. This is a permanent, Sydney-based role for an engineer who wants genuine ownership and technical depth, not just ticket work.
Design and build cross-platform mobile applications using React Native, shipping to both iOS and Android
Develop and maintain server-side rendered web applications using Next.js, with a focus on performance and scalability
Architect and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS, including services such as Lambda, EC2, RDS, S3, and CloudFront
Collaborate closely with product and design teams to translate complex requirements into clean, maintainable code
Implement CI/CD pipelines and contribute to DevOps practices that improve deployment reliability and velocity
Conduct thorough code reviews and mentor junior engineers to maintain high engineering standards across the team
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across the front-end, back-end, and infrastructure layers
5+ years of hands-on full stack development experience in a commercial environment
Strong proficiency in React Native with demonstrable experience shipping production mobile applications
Solid expertise in Next.js, including SSR, SSG, API routes, and optimisation techniques
Proven AWS experience — you're comfortable configuring and deploying infrastructure, not just consuming it
Proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript patterns across both front-end and back-end codebases
Experience working with RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs, including design and integration
Must be Sydney-based or genuinely willing to relocate — this role requires on-site collaboration
Competitive salary of $150,000 base, commensurate with experience
Permanent, full-time role with long-term stability and a clear path for technical career progression
Work on greenfield and brownfield projects with real architectural influence — your decisions will matter
Collaborative engineering culture with a low-bureaucracy environment and modern tooling
Flexible working arrangements with a Sydney CBD-based office and hybrid options available
