Shape user experiences at Canva as a Senior Front End Developer in Sydney, building React Native and Next.js apps for thousands of users in a hybrid permanent
We’re looking for a Senior Front‑End Developer to join our fast‑growing product team in Sydney. You’ll be shaping the user experience of a suite of mobile and web applications that serve thousands of Australian users, working alongside a tight‑knit group of engineers, designers and product owners.
Architect and deliver high‑performance React Native mobile apps and Next.js web applications from concept to production.
Write clean, reusable HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript components that meet accessibility and performance standards.
Collaborate with back‑end engineers to integrate APIs, optimise data flow, and troubleshoot integration issues.
Mentor junior developers, conduct code reviews, and champion best‑practice front‑end patterns.
Implement CI/CD pipelines and automate testing (unit, integration, E2E) to maintain a reliable release cadence.
Stay current with the React ecosystem, evaluate new libraries, and propose improvements to our tech stack.
Work closely with UI/UX designers to translate mockups into pixel‑perfect, responsive interfaces.
5+ years of professional front‑end development experience, with at least 3 years focused on React Native and Next.js.
Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3 (including Flexbox/Grid), and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
Australian Permanent Residency or citizenship (must be eligible to work in Australia).
Demonstrated ability to ship production‑grade mobile and web applications at scale.
Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative workflows (pull requests, branching strategies).
Desirable: hands‑on experience with AWS services (e.g., Amplify, S3, CloudFront, Lambda) and infrastructure‑as‑code tools.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and a proactive attitude toward learning new technologies.
Competitive base salary of $140,000 AUD per annum.
